Layer Teach-In

Parents, community members, and friends of Layer Elementary School, make plans now to be a part of Teach-In on Tuesday, November 17th. We are looking for community leaders to teach at least one class in this community-wide effort.

Teach-In is a perfect opportunity for parents, business leaders and community members to let students know we care about them. It is simple – join us on Tuesday, November 17 and teach a class or two – whatever your schedule permits.

Teach-In highlights the importance of bringing together teachers, school staff, parents, students, and communities in a unified effort to build great public schools. We will do our part by giving you some suggestions to prepare you for this experience with an informative Teach-In Speaker Guide. Simply fill out this Speaker Registration Form.

You will not regret your decision to be a volunteer teacher during Teach-In 2026. We cannot wait to hear from you!

Science Fair for Grades 3, 4, and 5

Calling all future scientists, engineers, inventors, and problem-solvers! Third through fifth grade students are invited to sign up for the Science Fair and turn their curiosity into discovery. Through hands-on investigations, students build creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and confidence while exploring topics that interest them. Families can support their child's success by encouraging their ideas, helping them stay organized, and celebrating their effort along the way. We can't wait to see the amazing projects our students create!

Attendance is important!

Please send in your excuse notes for absences or tardies to LRES_attendance@myscps.us or log into your Family Skyward account. Please be sure your doctor's & excuse notes are in within two weeks of the absence so they can be entered properly! Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

We want to ask for your assistance since we want to keep our campus safe for all students during arrival and dismissal. Please check out the reminders below:
  • Thank you for making sure your child arrives between 8:05a.m.-8:35a.m. each morning! Tardy slips will be given at 8:35a.m. If your child is tardy, you must walk them to the front office to check them in.
  • Teachers open their classroom doors at 8:30a.m. and students transition from their holding areas. Students need the time to settle in their classroom as they start the day!
  • Please do not drop off your child before 8:05a.m. since there is NO supervision until then. We need all students to remain in their cars until the 8:05a.m. bell rings. If your child is a walker, please help their timing so they do not arrive to campus before 8:05a.m.
  • In the morning parents are encouraged to utilize our carline so that we can get students in safely. If you plan to walk your child to the front entrance, please only park in the main parking lot and cross on the cross walk. No families should be parking on the side grass area, the handicapped spots without a decal, or the bus loop.
  • The “Reserved Parking” spots to the left of the handicap spaces are for ESE students that may need support transitioning in and out of school each day.
  • As we are building routines, we ask that you check your student out by 2:30p.m. if you need to get them early. It is also helpful for the teacher to know your timeline so they can support your students and have their needed items ready to go. We want everyone to be safe and accounted for during our busy school-wide dismissal!
  • ALL people who are coming to check out their child must have an ID present for us to verify. We will scan your photo ID for safety purpose in the Raptor system. In addition, it is helpful if the teacher knows in advance that they will be leaving so the student can have their backpack with them if they are not in the classroom.
  • If you have any changes with dismissal, please call the front office before 2:30p.m. or notify the teacher in writing in the student planner. Emails/phone calls directly to the teacher might not be received before dismissal!
  • If your child is a car rider, please pull all the way forward so we can fit as many cars as possible on the line in the morning and the afternoon. No adult should get out of their car and students should be exiting/entering on the right side of the car.
  • We appreciate your patience in car line. Please DO NOT weave around other cars or staff members supporting the cross walk during arrival and during dismissal.
  • Our car line will be moving quicker each afternoon after the first week! Please be sure to be at Layer by 3:15p.m. for pick-up. It is helpful if you please leave your car sign visible until your child gets in the car. If a student has not been picked up by 3:20p.m. they will be brought inside and they need to be signed out in the office.
  • Any inclement weather announcements will be made through Parent Square.
