Principal's Message

Happy Almost End of the School Year! What an incredible year! Thank you for sharing your students with us! We are proud of the great things each of them have learned and we know they are ready for the next adventure ahead. We are pleased to announce our 2026-2027 theme....Catch the WAVE and ride to success at Layer!

As we roll into summer, we encourage families to continue to read and talk about thinking together! Students do need a break, but they can also be enjoying learning still. Here are some ideas:
  • Begin reading Sunshine State Books for next year (coming next week)
  • Listen to stories on "Tumble Books" within your child's portal and take Accelerated Readers tests (Renaissance icon)
  • Visit a SCPS library that has summer classes and summer reading programs (info below)

You can also access materials within your child's portal that could be used for practice:
  • iReady for Reading and Math (until June 30)
  • Practice of Math curriculum using the "Savvas" tile or with books being sent home
  • Practice of Reading curriculum using the "McGraw Hill" tile or with books being sent home

If you need support with registering or withdrawing your child for next school year, please call our office or email us at Layer_Registration@scps.k12.fl.us.

As always, please let us know if you have questions, feedback, or celebrations.

The Adventure Awaits at Layer!

5th Grade Car Parade- May 27

It’s almost time for our 5th Grade Clap-Out & Car Parade! Read below for directions & reminders!
  • Car Parade- Wednesday, May 27th at 9:00am
  • The Car Parade will line up in front of the school as we do with car line, beginning at the stop sign LEAVING the car line. Our deputy will lead the line of parent cars around the bus loop then back through the parking lot. We will go twice around!
  • Car Parade "staging" can begin at 8:45am. Please form a single line in the right lane so that visitors can still get through.
  • We will begin our Car Parade directly after the 5th Grade Clap-Out (where Layer students line the bus ramp and clap as the 5th graders walk past). Parents are allowed to watch the Clap-Out but please stay on the sidewalk by the handicap spots!
  • Feel free to decorate your car or make signs! There are only a few times when you are encouraged to embarrass your child at school..... this is one of them!
  • 5th grade students will be sitting under the awning of the bus ramp. That means the passenger side of your car will be seen by our 5th graders but the entire bus ramp will be filled on both sides with all other Layer students!
  • Please drive SAFELY & leave distance between your car and the one in front of you! All students will be outside to watch the 5th grade Clap Out & Car Parade. Make sure you remain alert while driving!
  • If you are planning on having your younger Layer children ride in the car with you, please check them out at the front desk through our regular check-out procedures before 8:50am. Make sure you bring your ID!

Attendance Matters!

Please send in your excuse notes for absences or tardies to LRES_attendance@myscps.us or log into your Family Skyward account. Please be sure your doctor's & excuse notes are in within two weeks of the absence so they can be entered properly! Excuse notes need to explain the family emergency or if your child is sick to be excused. After 10 written/emailed parent notes, doctor notes are required.

Pride Expectations

PRIDE Expectations with PBIS!

Layer is proud to be a PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) School! We expect all students to follow our PRIDE expectations so we can keep our school a happy and safe place for all students.

We appreciate family support as we link all behavior choices to our expectations across our campus with our continued Lucky Bucks and our consistent Behavior Alert system. Layer follows a Heirachy of Consequences in every classroom which can be viewed HERE.

HERE is the Seminole County Public Schools Student Code of Conduct. These are the expectations that all students follow to keep our school happy and safe.

HERE is the Seminole County Public Schools Dress Code. We ask that all students have appropriate clothing and safe shoes to play outside in each day. No flip-flops please!
