Principal's Message

We had the best first week at Layer! It was great to see students connect with one another and their teachers. We loved seeing collaboration and engagement with various types of learning. Students were positive and learning routines to keep everyone safe. We are so proud of everyone's work and we look forward to more great weeks ahead.

Please know we are here if you have questions, feedback, or needs! I look forward to working with all of your families this year!

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

We want to ask for your assistance since we want to keep our campus safe for all students during arrival and dismissal. Please read the important reminders below:

  • Please do not drop off your child before 8:05a.m. since there is NO supervision. We need all students to remain in their cars until the 8:05a.m. bell rings. If your child is a walker, please help their timing so they do not arrive to campus before 8:05a.m.
  • We ask that you check your student out by 2:30p.m. to avoid getting delayed in our busy end-of-day routines & dismissal procedures.
  • ALL people who are coming to check out their child must have an ID present for us to verify. This will be scanned into our Raptor system.
  • If you have any changes with dismissal, please call the front office before 2:30p.m. or notify the teacher in writing in the student planner. Emails/phone calls directly to the teacher might not be received before dismissal!

Don't forget

Please Label Your Items!

As we start the year, we ask that you please remember to label your child's items! Jackets, sweatshirts, lunchboxes, and water bottles are common things we find around campus without names! We do have a Lost and Found in the cafeteria, but it is helpful to help get them to the correct person when they are labeled! All items left in the Lost and Found do get donated at the end of each semester.

Parent Consent Forms in Skyward

For the 2025-2026 school year, the Parental Authorization for Deviation from Student’s Legal Name Form, as well as the SCPS Code of Conduct can be found in the parent/guardian account of Skyward Family Access.

Without the signed name deviation consent form from parent/guardian, staff are required to use only the legal name of the student as listed in Skyward. If you have previously completed and submitted the Parental Authorization for Name Deviation Form, and there are no modifications to the information provided since last year, there is no need to resubmit the form. Your previous authorization and parental consent will remain valid for the current academic year.

Attendance

Attendance Counts!

Absences add up! We want to prioritize your child's learning, but they need to be in school as much as possible to do so! Please support your child's education by ensuring that they are present from 8:30a.m.-3:05p.m. each day! If students are tardy or if they get picked up early, they do miss important instructional time. As always, if they are sick, we want them to rest and recover before returning to school.

Please send in your excuse notes for absences or tardies to LRES_attendance@myscps.us. Please be sure they are in within two weeks of the absence so they can be entered properly! Your notes need to explain the family emergency or if your child is sick to be excused. After 10 written/emailed parent notes, doctor notes are required. Let Admin know if you have any questions or needs!

PRIDE Expectations with PBIS!

Layer is proud to be a PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) School! We expect all students to follow our PRIDE expectations so we can keep our school a happy and safe place for all students.

We appreciate family support as we link all behavior choices to our expectations across our campus with our continued Lucky Bucks and our consistent Behavior Alert system. Layer follows a Heirachy of Consequences in every classroom which can be viewed HERE.

HERE is the Seminole County Public Schools Student Code of Conduct. These are the expectations that all students follow to keep our school happy and safe.

HERE is the Seminole County Public Schools Dress Code. We ask that all students have appropriate clothing and safe shoes to play outside in each day. No flip-flops please!
